Here, the factories became stages. Joy Division was born from the gray industrial city. After Ian Curtis' death, they became New Order, inventing part of the electronic sound that would dominate the 80s. The Smiths created the city's melancholic voice. Both Oasis and The Stone Roses proved that the city knew how to suffer, but also how to provoke.
