Bodega Jazz Club

John Mayall

1962

The Story

This old club operated in a basement on Cross Street and was Manchester's most important jazz and blues spot between the late 1950s and early 60s. It was here, in 1962, that a young John Mayall, from the band Blues Syndicate, opened the night for Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated. This encounter made John drop everything and move to London to pursue his career. In the 1970s, the venue closed its doors.
