The Story

This house in West Didsbury was where Factory Records was founded in 1978, in a first-floor apartment belonging to Alan Erasmus. Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus created the label right there, operating with little more than a telephone before any larger structure. A blue plaque was unveiled in 2017 with the presence of names such as Peter Saville and members of Happy Mondays.
