1978
This store opened in 1978, amidst Manchester's post-punk explosion, selling rock, pop, indie, and alternative music. In 1990, it changed ownership and solidified its reputation as one of the best independent stores in the world. In 1997, it moved to its current location in the heart of the Northern Quarter. Its collection covers indie, electronic, house, techno, soul, funk, jazz, reggae, and punk, with a strong focus on new releases and reissues. It was voted Best Independent Record Store in the UK by the Music Week Awards and Best Record Store by Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards. Still active.
