Out of the Blue Studios

Oasis, The Fall, 808 State

1985

The Story

This old studio operated in a run-down building, becoming a recording and rehearsal space for Manchester's post-punk and electronic scene, hosting bands like The Fall and 808 State. It was here that Oasis, still unsigned, recorded their first demo in the autumn of 1991. In October 1993, with Noel Gallagher already in the band and a contract signed with Creation Records, the band returned to the venue to record the studio version of Shakermaker, which would be released on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. In 1993, photographer Michael Spencer Jones conducted the band's first photoshoot here, marking the beginning of a partnership that would result in the cover art for Oasis's first three albums.
