Ian Curtis Mural

The Story

A large black-and-white portrait of Ian Curtis by street artist Akse P19, based on a 1979 photograph by Philippe Carly. The original mural, painted in the Northern Quarter in October 2020, was controversially covered by an Amazon Music ad in 2022, prompting outrage from fans and former bandmates. The replacement was unveiled on 10 September 2023, World Suicide Prevention Day, on the side of this pub next to Piccadilly station.
