The Story

This is the house where Ian Curtis lived with his wife Deborah and their daughter Natalie, and where he wrote much of *Closer*, Joy Division's second album. On the night of May 17-18, 1980, he arranged family photos on the mantelpiece before taking his own life. The house is a private residence, but it has become an unofficial monument, attracting fans from all over the world.
