The Story

This concert hall opened in 1963 within the Co-Operative Wholesale Society complex, quickly becoming an icon of Manchester's music scene. Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Tina Turner, The Who, Bee Gees, and Jerry Lee Lewis all graced its stage throughout the 60s. In the 80s, it became a hotspot for all-night acid house parties, with names like 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald playing during the Madchester heyday. It was practically forgotten for decades, with only a few rare special shows, until a complete renovation reopened the space in September 2022. The original spring-loaded dance floor is still there, preserved with a 50 pence fee included in tickets for its maintenance. It's a Grade II listed building. Still active.
