The Story

Opened by Factory Records and New Order in May 1982 in a former yacht showroom, the Haçienda became the center of the Madchester scene. Madonna played her first UK show here. The nightclub lost money almost every year of its existence and closed in 1997. The building was demolished and replaced by a residential block curiously named The Hacienda.
