Ian Curtis Memorial Plaque

Joy Division

· 1978-1979

The Story

This is the former employment office where Ian Curtis worked as a civil servant, helping disabled people find work. The day job he kept while Joy Division grew. In 2015, a plaque designed by Peter Saville, the graphic designer behind all of Factory Records' artwork, was installed to mark his time here. Joy Division/New Order drummer Stephen Morris was at the unveiling of the plaque at the Old Labour Exchange Macclesfield.
