Opened in 1993, the Viper Room gained worldwide fame when River Phoenix died on the sidewalk outside on October 31 of that same year. The club was partly owned by Johnny Depp. Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, and Iggy Pop played here in surprise shows. Still active on the Sunset Strip and has been the setting for several films.
