The Story
This outdoor amphitheater inside Griffith Park opened in 1930 and today has a capacity for 5,900 people. Surrounded by trees and with the Hollywood skyline in the background, it is considered one of Los Angeles' most beautiful stages. During World War II, it even served as military barracks, but it truly came to life in the post-war period, hosting in 1972 the show that became Neil Diamond's live album Hot August Night. In October 1999, it was Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes' turn to record Live at the Greek here, mixing Led Zeppelin's repertoire with blues and classic rock covers. It remains active, hosting names such as Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie, and Stevie Nicks.
