The Story
The Who appear covered by the British flag, leaning against the wall on the left side of the Carl Schurz Monument in Morningside Park. The photo was taken in 1968 by photographer Art Kane, inspired by an image by Henri Cartier-Bresson taken in Trafalgar Square in 1937, and only became an album cover eleven years later with the release of The Kids Are Alright in 1979.
