The Story

The brick wall at Albert's Garden, a small community garden on East 2nd Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue, was the backdrop for the iconic cover of the Ramones' debut album, photographed by Roberta Bayley for Punk Magazine in early 1976. The photo was purchased by Sire Records for US$125 and became one of the most imitated album cover images in history. The garden is still there, just a stone's throw from the former CBGB.
