Bon Jovi, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora
1984
The cover photo for Bon Jovi's debut album was taken on West 58th Street in Hell's Kitchen by photographer Geoffrey Hargrave Thomas. The design was created by Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz. The album was released on January 23, 1984, by Mercury Records and recorded at Power Station in New York with production by Tony Bongiovi, Jon's cousin, and Lance Quinn. The single "Runaway" had already been circulating on New Jersey radio stations since 1982 and secured their record deal. At the time, the band was a quintet of young men from New Jersey trying their luck in New York with no certainty of what the future held. Three years later, *Slippery When Wet* would make them one of the biggest rock phenomena of the 80s.
