The Doors Venice Beach

The Story

The Doors have several famous photos in Venice Beach. Jim Morrison lived there shortly after graduating from UCLA, and the band found much of its visual identity in the bohemian environments of Venice and Laurel Canyon. It was on a Venice beach in 1965 that Morrison sang the verses of "Moonlight Drive" to Ray Manzarek, the moment The Doors were born. Venice Beach is considered a must-see for fans of the band. Besides being the birthplace of the group, it also houses interesting landmarks, such as the famous Jim Morrison mural at 1811 Speedway, painted in 1991 by Rip Cronk.
