The Church Studios

The Story

This 1855 Victorian church was split in half in 1982. Half remained a church, half became a studio. Bob Bura and John Hardwick, creators of the British children's shows Camberwick Green and Captain Pugwash, stopped Dave Stewart on the street and offered him the upstairs space. Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox of Eurythmics moved in and completed *Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)* there, the album that launched them worldwide. Stewart bought the building and named it The Church Studios, where he recorded with Bob Dylan, Depeche Mode, Tom Petty, and Elvis Costello. Florence + The Machine also recorded here. In 2004, the studio was sold to musician David Gray, and in 2013, it was bought and renovated by producer Paul Epworth, responsible for Adele's albums *21* and *25*. Still active.
