The Story

This is the largest convention center in Latin America, inaugurated in 1977 on Avenida Salvador Allende in Jacarepaguá. Over the decades, it has hosted shows by great national and international artists in its pavilions and amphitheater, ranging from MPB festivals to major names in rock and Brazilian popular music. It is also remembered for the April 30, 1981, attack, when military personnel attempted to detonate bombs during a Workers' Day concert. The Cidade do Rock for the first Rock in Rio in 1985 took place on the land directly in front of it.
