Quadra do Grande Rio

The Story

Founded in 1988 from the merger of Grande Rio (itself originated from the union of four schools from Duque de Caxias in 1971) with Acadêmicos de Duque de Caxias, Grande Rio is one of the youngest samba schools in the Special Group, and one of the most ambitious. It took decades to win, but in 2022 it got there with the theme Fala, Majeté! Sete Chaves de Exu, considered one of the most audacious parades in recent carnival history. The samba court is in Caxias, in the Baixada Fluminense, and rehearsals attract a loyal audience that travels across the city to be there.
