Quadra da Vila Isabel

The Story

Founded in 1946 in the neighborhood of Noel Rosa, Vila Isabel won the 1988 Carnival with the "Kizomba, Festa da Raça" theme, considered one of the greatest samba-enredos ever written, a powerful celebration of African heritage on the centenary of abolition. The quadra is located on Boulevard 28 de Setembro, named in honor of the 1871 Law of Free Birth, one of the steps that preceded the definitive abolition of slavery in Brazil in 1888.
