The Story

Founded on March 7, 1953, the school was born because Ilha do Governador had no one to represent it in carnival. Crossing the sea towards Sapucaí became a recurring theme in the school's sambas and is a trademark of an association known for light parades, simple costumes, and direct communication with the public. "É Hoje," from 1982, is one of the most re-recorded samba-enredos in history. In 2011, unfortunately, the float shed caught fire a month before Carnival, but the school paraded anyway and was applauded.
