Escola de Samba São Clemente
Est. 1961
Founded on October 25, 1961, in Botafogo, São Clemente is the only samba school in Rio's South Zone to have paraded in the Special Group. It became known for its most irreverent, ironic, and politically uncomfortable carnival themes. The residents of Botafogo never truly accepted the rehearsals in the neighborhood. The school now rehearses on Avenida Presidente Vargas, in Cidade Nova, far from the neighborhood it is named after.
