Imperatriz Leopoldinense

1959

The Story

Founded in 1959, Imperatriz, known as the Queen of Ramos, is one of the most technically awarded samba schools in Rio's Carnival, with 9 titles and a samba-enredo, "Liberdade, liberdade, abra as asas sobre nós!" (1989), considered one of the best in history. It became known for the precision of its parades, under the command of carnival designers such as Arlindo Rodrigues and Rosa Magalhães, who helped transform the technique of carnival design into an art form discussed in the press throughout the year.
