The Story

The renowned burning handshake photo on the cover of Wish You Were Here was photographed on the Warner Bros. Studios film lot in Burbank in 1975. Hipgnosis, the design duo formed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, hired two stuntmen, Ronnie Rondell and Danny Rogers, to perform the actual handshake while one of them was genuinely set on fire. The stuntman was ignited several times until the wind blew the flames in the wrong direction, singeing his real mustache and ending the session on that take.
