The Story

The cover of On the Beach was an elaborate production, put together by Young and his art director Gary Burden on Santa Monica Beach in 1974. A garden chair, a parasol, a buried car, and personal items were scattered on the sand. Considered one of Young's darkest and most honest albums, it was recorded after a turbulent period.
