The Story

Housed in a former Vox amplifier factory in Van Nuys, in the Valley, Sound City Studios became one of the most legendary studios in rock history. Classic albums such as Neil Young's After the Gold Rush, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' Damn the Torpedoes, Fleetwood Mac's first album with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham (which paved the way directly for Rumours), Nirvana's Nevermind, and Rage Against the Machine's debut album were recorded there. The studio closed its doors in 2011, but was given new life when Dave Grohl bought the historic console from the place and directed a Grammy-winning documentary telling its story. It reopened in 2017, still with much of the original analog equipment.
