The Story

The album that changed hip-hop was recorded at Audio Achievements Studio, in Torrance, in just six weeks. Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and Eazy-E built gangsta rap as a language in this building. While recording, the police approached the band outside the studio, ordered them to lie face down on the ground, and demanded identification without any explanation. This episode inspired the track "F*ck tha Police". The album was banned from radio stations nationwide and yet, sold three million copies. The building still exists in Torrance.
