The album that changed hip-hop was recorded at Audio Achievements Studio in Torrance in just six weeks. Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and Eazy-E built gangsta rap as a language in this building. While recording, police approached the band outside the studio, ordered them to their knees, and asked for ID without any explanation. The album was released in August 1988, was banned from radio stations nationwide, and sold three million copies in six months. The building still stands in Torrance.
