The Story

This athletics stadium in East London's East End hosted Blur's largest show to date on June 17, 1995. It was one of the defining moments of Britpop at its peak. Pulp, Elastica, and Supergrass opened the show. Weeks later, Blur would release Country House in a chart battle with Oasis's Roll With It. The Mile End show was filmed and broadcast by MTV, becoming the most important document of the scene at the time. Damon Albarn later said that it was here that he realized Britpop had gone too far to be sustainable. The stadium still exists as a sports complex in the Tower Hamlets borough.
