The Story

The cover photo, featuring two greyhounds running, is actually a stock sports image, taken in 1988 at Romford Stadium in Essex, years before it became the Blur album cover. The band's real connection to Walthamstow Stadium, one of London's most famous greyhound racing tracks, came later. It was here that the band posed for the back cover and album booklet photos on a night in 1994. The stadium closed in 2008, but its historic Grade II listed facade was preserved and incorporated into the residential development built on the site.
