The Story

This former bar on the Sunset Strip, next to Whisky a Go Go, is where The Doors truly began as a band. Between February and May 1966, they played as the resident band, gaining confidence on stage while experimenting with everything from blues covers to original compositions. It was here that Jim Morrison met Pamela Courson, his great love for the rest of his life. Ronnie Haran-Mellen, a talent scout for Whisky a Go Go, saw the band play at the London Fog and brought them in to become the resident band at the neighboring club, which would lead to their historic contract with Elektra Records months later. The club closed in 1966. Decades later, amateur recordings made by a UCLA student using a tape recorder were officially released by the band in 2016, as the box set London Fog 1966.
