Before any of them were famous, Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos, Tim Maia, and Jorge Ben were just teenagers from Tijuca who hung out on Rua do Matoso, swapping records and forming garage bands with names like The Sputniks and The Snakes. It was here that Tim Maia taught Erasmo his first guitar chords. The entire Jovem Guarda movement, Brazil's answer to rock and roll, began on this street.
