The Story
The corner of East 2nd and Bowery, directly across from the former CBGB, was renamed Joey Ramone Place in 2003, in honor of the Ramones' lead singer, who passed away in 2001. CBGB itself closed in 2006 after 33 years as the birthplace of punk and new wave.
