Jimi Hendrix Haight St

Jimi Hendrix

The Story

This house on Haight Street is known as the "Red House" and, according to local tradition, is associated with a brief stay by Jimi Hendrix during the Summer of Love, although the musician's biographers dispute that he actually lived at the address. Jimi Hendrix died in London in September 1970, sixteen days before Janis Joplin; both were 27 years old and both were connected to this same Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. The concentration of talent that passed through these few streets in the 1960s is almost unbelievable. Today it is a private residence painted red, with a mural of Jimi on the facade.
