The Story

The venue was built in 1915 for an international exposition and was renamed in 1992 in honor of Bill Graham, who died in a helicopter crash in October 1991. Bill Graham invented the modern rock concert with three bands a night, genre blending, professional lighting, and psychedelic posters. He was the most important concert promoter in American rock history and operated in San Francisco throughout his career. The venue still hosts concerts in San Francisco.
