The Story

The cover photo for the Greatful Dead's *Workingman's Dead* was taken in front of Beanie's Place Tavern, a corner bar in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood of southeast San Francisco. The exact address remained unidentified for decades but was discovered by researchers such as Bob Egan of PopSpots by combining unreleased photos from the shoot, oil tanks visible in the background, and historical city maps. The building no longer exists.
