Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre

The Story

This house in the Excelsior district is where Jerry Garcia moved in 1947, at the age of five, after the sudden death of his father, to live with his maternal grandparents and his brother Tiff. He spent five formative years here, attending Monroe Elementary School. Jerry Garcia wrote his only book about his memories of this neighborhood, called Harrington Street, which was released after his death.
