The Story

The iconic cover of Hotel California features a dusk photograph of the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, taken by photographer David Alexander. The hotel's lights blazing against the amber sky created one of the most recognizable images in American rock history. The album was recorded between March and October 1976 and sold over 42 million copies worldwide. The hotel, opened in 1912 and listed as a California historic landmark, still welcomes guests on the same Sunset Boulevard.
