The iconic album cover of Hotel California shows a dusk photograph of the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, taken by photographer David Alexander. The hotel lights turned on against the amber sky created one of the most recognizable images in American rock history. The album was recorded between 1976 and 1977 and sold over 32 million copies. The hotel, opened in 1912 and listed as a California historical landmark, still welcomes guests on the same Sunset Boulevard.
