Dee Dee Ramone 53rd Street & 3rd Avenue

The Story

The street corner immortalized by Dee Dee Ramone's song "53rd & 3rd," from the Ramones' 1976 debut album. Dee Dee described the corner as notorious for male prostitution but was always evasive about the autobiographical nature of the song, saying in an interview that he'd prefer "not to get into that." It was others in his circle, such as Sire Records owner Seymour Stein, who publicly suggested the story was based on his real life. Today, the Citigroup Center occupies the site.
