Creedence Willy and the Poor Boys

The Story

This corner, in front of the old Duck Kee Market, was where Creedence Clearwater Revival photographed the cover of their album *Willy and the Poor Boys*, released on November 2, 1969. The photographer Basil Parik ran out of film in the middle of the session, and the band ended up playing and waiting for him to return, and they even composed the instrumental song "Poorboy Shuffle" right there. Months after the album was released, John Fogerty went into the small market to buy cigarettes, and the attendant recognized him immediately, taking the album from the store wall and saying "You're the singer!". The cover location was just a few blocks from the Fantasy Records label office, and on the way back, around 32nd Street, is where the photo for the album's back cover was taken.
