The Story

Opened in 1972 in Sausalito, a city on the other side of the famous Golden Gate bridge, it became one of the main studios used as a retreat by artists. Sly Stone lived in the studio for months. Fleetwood Mac spent over 3000 hours here recording Rumours in 1976. Stevie Nicks wrote 'Dreams' here in 10 minutes. Prince recorded his debut For You here in 1978 at 19 years old, playing all the instruments. Metallica recorded Load and Reload here. Santana described the place as "more important than the Vatican." It eventually closed but reopened and today operates as 2200 Studios.
