The Story

The most famous corner in the history of Brazilian music, at the intersection of Divinópolis and Paraisópolis streets in Santa Tereza, gave its name to the Clube da Esquina movement. The nickname came from Dona Maricota, Lô Borges' mother, who christened the boys' gatherings on the sidewalk this way, playing on the elite social clubs of Belo Horizonte at the time. When the Borges family returned to the neighborhood in the late 1960s, the nightly meetings there and at the family home became the creative nucleus that would result in the album "Clube da Esquina" (1972). In December 2024, the corner was revitalized, gaining a colorful facade, a bench, and a walk of fame with the names of Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta, Naná Vasconcelos, and Robertinho Silva.
