The Story

The cover of Beck's album Odelay, featuring a Komondor dog jumping over an obstacle, was chosen by Beck after he saw the photograph in a book about dogs. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and is considered one of the best of the 1990s. The photograph was taken by photographer Joan Ludwig in the mid-1970s, and published in the July 1977 issue of the American Kennel Club's Gazette magazine. Comparing the mountains and landscape in the background of the original photo with current images of the region, the park near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is the closest match to the scenery, suggesting that the dog show took place more or less around here.
