The Story

The corner of Ludlow and Rivington on the Lower East Side is where the Beastie Boys photographed the cover of Paul's Boutique in 1989. "Paul's Boutique" never existed as a real store. The name was invented by the band, who hung a fake sign over the facade of Lee's Sportswear, the actual store that occupied the corner at the time, just for the photo. Today, the intersection of the famous cover has become Beastie Boys Square. The neighborhood has been completely transformed.
