This imposing Spanish Colonial Revival building opened in 1927 as The El Capitan Theatre and was renamed The Palace in 1982, directly across from the famous Capitol Records building. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the venue was one of the most important stages for rock and alternative music on the West Coast. The location hosted legendary performances by names like Nirvana, Prince, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Oasis' city debut in 1994. On August 6, 1996, the venue made punk rock history with the Ramones' final farewell show. The space underwent renovations and was renamed AVALON Hollywood, remaining in operation. Still active.
