John Lennon, Yoko Ono, The Beatles, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Judas Priest
1969-1989
This mansion in Sunningdale, Berkshire, was purchased by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in May 1969 for £145,000. Lennon spent twice the purchase price on renovations. On August 22, 1969, the four Beatles reunited here for the group's last photo session, with the images used on the cover of the 1970 Hey Jude singles album. In 1970, Lennon built the Ascot Sound Studios on the grounds, where he recorded the album Imagine in 1971 with production by Phil Spector and the participation of George Harrison. The music video for Imagine was filmed inside the house, with Yoko Ono opening the windows and Lennon at the white piano. In August 1971, the couple left for the United States and never returned. In September 1973, Lennon sold the property to Ringo Starr, who renamed the studio Startling Studios. Judas Priest recorded British Steel here in 1980. In 1989, Ringo sold the property to a royal family from the United Arab Emirates and it is not open to the public. Viewings from the gate on London Road only.
