Beatles Last Concert Rooftop

The Beatles

1969

The Story

On January 30, 1969, The Beatles played their last public show on the rooftop of the Apple Corps headquarters, at 3 Savile Row. It was very cold and John Lennon played wearing Yoko Ono's fur coat, while Ringo wore his wife Maureen's raincoat. With guest keyboardist Billy Preston, the band played 9 versions of 5 songs in 42 minutes, until neighbors annoyed by the noise called the police. When the officers arrived, Paul McCartney improvised the lyrics to "Get Back" playfully addressing the situation, and John Lennon ended the show with the phrase that would become iconic: "I hope we passed the audition." It was the last time the four played together in public. The building will open as an official Beatles experience in 2027, with seven floors of unreleased archives and access to the same rooftop, with the original railings from 1969.
