The Story

The store that the Beatles opened in December 1967 as part of Apple Corps was decorated with a psychedelic mural that went from the ground floor to the fourth floor, including the chimney. Westminster City Council forced the removal of the mural about six months later. The store closed in July 1968. The Beatles simply opened the doors and let customers take everything for free one day. The original building was demolished in the early 1970s and replaced by a modern office building, which today has a commemorative blue plaque marking the site as historical.
