The Story

The studio in Soho, at 17 St Anne's Court, was a pioneer in installing the UK's first 8-track recorder, at a time when Abbey Road was still only using 4 tracks. It was this technical advantage that attracted the Beatles to record "Hey Jude" in 1968. David Bowie recorded "Space Oddity," "Hunky Dory," and "Ziggy Stardust" here. Queen recorded their debut album here in 1973, taking advantage of the idle time Paul McCartney had booked at the studio but didn't use. Elton John, Lou Reed, and Harry Nilsson also recorded at Trident, all playing the same century-old Bechstein piano featured in "Hey Jude," "Your Song," and "Killer Queen." The building still stands in Soho.
