The Story

This brick building on West 54th Street housed another incarnation of The Hit Factory, purchased by Ed Germano in 1991, with five floors, each with its own studio. It was here that Michael Jackson recorded HIStory, Mariah Carey made Butterfly and the Christmas hit All I Want for Christmas Is You, Madonna recorded Ray of Light, Notorious B.I.G. made Ready to Die, TLC recorded CrazySexyCool, Beyoncé recorded her first solo album Dangerously in Love, Coldplay made X&Y, and Whitney Houston recorded the soundtrack for The Bodyguard. After Ed Germano's death in 2003, his wife took over operations until the definitive closure in March 2005. The building was sold and became a luxury condominium, with the lobby displaying a collection of gold and platinum records recorded there.
