The Greek Theatre UC Berkeley

Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan

1903

The Story

This amphitheater on the UC Berkeley campus opened on September 24, 1903. In 1906, French actress Sarah Bernhardt performed there in a benefit show for the victims of that year's San Francisco earthquake. In the 1960s, it became a concert venue for the Grateful Dead, who played here 29 times between 1967 and 1989, considered by band members and staff to be one of their favorite venues in their career. There are also records of Bob Dylan concerts recorded here, including the bootleg *Live At Greek Theatre, Berkeley*, from the show on October 10, 2009. It remains active.
